A study in Canada shows that public awareness of CCS is higher in Alberta and Saskatchewan due to investment in education and exposure to local capture and storage programs in those areas.

The Canadian government has committed to making carbon capture and storage an important part of Canada's energy conservation plan, and increasing public understanding is key to acceptance of the necessity of CCS projects.

The study (commissioned by IPAC-CO2 and conducted by Insightrix Research) showed that the majority (88%) of Canadians believe that climate change is occurring, and that 31% think it is due solely to human activity. In addition, 29% of those surveyed believe that CCS will help ensure lower and more stable energy prices.

One question this raises in the United States is, would a similar survey find such high belief in the reality of climate change, and the promise of CCS to safely limit carbon emissions from fossil fuel combustion?
