CCS and Public Understanding

James J. Markowsky, assistant secretary for fossil fuels with the Department of Energy pointed out in an interview that educating the public about the viability of cleaner, more environmentally friendly fossil fuels is of paramount importance to the future success of Carbon Capture initiatives that have been begun.

Funding has been established for several projects around the country that will develop existing technologies for CCS, and these facilities will be coming online over the course of the next few years, beginning in 2014.

In addition to funding for the technical and scientific development of CCS technologies, some funding has begun to be established to promote knowledge and education of this growing field among scientists, engineers, and the public.

The Carbon Tech Alliance exists specifically to advance such educational opportunities, and is presenting our first live course that covers the basics of Carbon Capture and Storage in Richland, WA on June 14-15.

Following this course, we expect to join other partner locations around the country in presenting educational opportunities and symposia for professionals and members of the public, and promoting understanding of the important work being done to make Carbon technology cleaner.

The principals of Carbon Tech Alliance agree with Mr. Murkowsky that education is key to understanding and acceptance, and resolve to do our part to expand the knowledge of those who we reach through our live and recorded lectures, as well as to those who visit this site.
