Grant Awarded to Saskatchewan Researcher for further CCS Study

In keeping with the Canadian government's recent support of CCS research, a researcher at the University of Saskatchewan has been awarded more than $600,000 for a three-year study in which he will work to determine which sites will be the most viable for storing (and keeping) CO2.

One of the biggest challenges in CCS technology is finding sites to put it where the CO2 will not leach or move, potentially contaminating groundwater.

Studies like this one go hand-in-hand with companion projects conducted by the coal industry to develop cost-effective methods of capturing emissions from carbon processing.

Recently, the Canadian government has shown support of CCS research by enacting legislation that mandates a reduction in emissions by 2020 (see Carbon Tech Alliance blog post here), and by investing in coal gasification research (see Carbpn Tech Alliance post here)
