Every AI result gets a decision: Accept, Verify, Reject or Escalate.
Course topics
- ReviewPrioritize substantive issues in a document clinic.
- RevisionImprove clarity without changing meaning.
- CommentsTrack questions and responses across drafts.
- WorkflowPractice a complete review and revision cycle.

What you will practice
- Reviewing with purpose. Set review criteria, judge materiality, and separate substantive concerns from editing.
- Returning useful comments. Write comments an author can act on, prioritize them, and know what to escalate.
- Clarity and plain language. Strengthen structure and sentences without changing meaning or commitments.
- Whole-document consistency. Check numbers, commitments, terminology, and conclusions across a long document.
- Managing consultant and team drafts. Set expectations, review in stages, and control versions across multiple authors.
- Project files and the administrative record. Keep source discipline and traceability from the start.
- Organizing and responding to comments. Sort, group, and respond to public and agency comments consistently and defensibly.
- Using AI with verification. Apply AI to bounded review and revision tasks, and check the results against sources, project facts, and your own judgment.
- Building a repeatable workflow. Design a review process with checklists and human checkpoints you can take back to your team.
Day 1 — Review and revise
- Module 1 — What good review looks like. Criteria, materiality, and the difference between editing and substantive review; writing comments that get results.
- Module 2 — Document clinic. Teams review a realistic, deliberately flawed excerpt set; compare AI-assisted issue detection with human review; decide what to accept, verify, reject, or escalate.
- Module 3 — Clarity and plain language. Structure, headings, and sentence-level clarity, applied to real passages.
- Module 4 — Whole-document consistency. Cross-checking numbers, commitments, conclusions, and terminology; comparing versions.
Day 2 — Manage, record, respond, and systematize
- Module 5 — Managing consultants and drafts. Staged review, expectations, feedback cycles, and revision control.
- Module 6 — Project files and the administrative record. What belongs in the record and how to keep it traceable.
- Module 7 — Comment response. Sorting, grouping, drafting, and checking responses for consistency and defensibility.
- Module 8 — A repeatable review workflow. Checklists, reusable instructions, human checkpoints, and a short look at what deeper AI skills can do.
- Module 9 — Capstone. A realistic document moves through review, revision, and response, with a prioritized review memo, revision log, and verification record.
