Description:

This course provides a 3-year Construction Stormwater Certification valid in both Washington (CESCL) and Oregon (1200C)

This is an in-person course taking place in Anacortes, WA

CESCL certification is required by the Washington State Department of Ecology, Construction Stormwater General Permit for personnel responsible for monitoring stormwater at construction sites disturbing one or more acres of land, or are part of a larger common plan of development. NWETC’s 2-day CESCL course is a dynamic interaction between a traditional classroom-style lecture and hands-on field exercises. Interactive dialogue between the attendees and the trainers is also promoted, to encourage a shared learning environment.

Day 1, and the first part of day 2 is spent in the classroom, discussing regulations, discussing impacts on water quality and construction activity, learning the reporting and recordkeeping requirements of the permit, and examining the most up-to-date erosion and sediment control techniques using examples and case studies. Best Management Practices (BMP) products are brought into the class to allow students to see firsthand the types of control measures that are available to them in the industry. At the end of the morning on Day 2, the required CESCL exam will be given.

On the afternoon of day 2, the class will visit a field site to learn more about the BMP products and practice correctly installing a variety of erosion control BMPs. They will also practice inspecting a site and filling out the SWPPP inspection paperwork.

Upon completion, attendees will have met the requirements of BMP C160 certification and will receive a CESCL card valid for three years.

"NWETC provided viewpoints from across different occupations which helped me think about CESCL from other perspectives." Anonymous, Dec 2015

"If you manage any field project in the NW, it would be good to have this knowledge" Anonymous, Nov 2015

NOTE: This  CESCL certification course is recognized as meeting the training and certification requirements of the General Permit, and BMP C160 Certified Erosion and Sediment Control Lead (CESCL) in Washington State Department of Ecology’s stormwater management manuals. The Construction Stormwater General Permit requires that site inspections be conducted by personnel certified in CESCL.

Intended Audience:

Contractors, agencies and municipalities, engineers, consultants and anyone else who desires to receive their CECSL certification with the Washington Department of Ecology.
