Model Toxics Control Act: A Comprehensive Review of The Cleanup Process for Regulators and Consultants Description: (Part 1 of 2) This updated series is a real world, applied examination of Washington’s Model Toxics Control Act (WAC 173-340) covering key issues and situations that consultants and site managers deal with and argue about, with the goal of minimizing site review time and expediting site cleanup approvals. In Part 1 (one day), the instructor will lead attendees through the key elements of MTCA, and present an overview of the MTCA administrative requirements and associated cleanup standards. Participants will also learn the MTCA remedy selection process and public involvement requirements. Time will be reserved for review of case-studies, discussion, and Q&A. Attendees will leave the session with a clear understanding of the basics of MTCA. *This course is immediately followed by the two-day WAPOL-402: Establishing MTCA Cleanup Levels Workshop

About the InstructorsPete Kmet
 Pete Kmet is a senior environmental engineer in the Policy and Technical Support Unit of the Washington State Department of Ecology's Toxics Cleanup Program. Mr. Kmet has extensive experience in site remediation, has played a key role in the development of MTCA legislation amendments, related rules, policies and technical guidance, and has presented on these topics at numerous MTCA workshops throughout the state. Mr. Kmet also serves as the mayor of Tumwater. Priscilla Tomlinson
 Priscilla Tomlinson is an expert in the fields of risk assessment, risk management, and risk communication. She has over 20 years of experience in the fields of risk assessment, toxicology, and hazardous waste. She has taught classes covering 2001 MTCA revisions and has applied MTCA rules at numerous cleanup sites. What to BringIf you will be using the provided PDF book, please bring a laptop or table to view it, or printouts of the material. State and government agencies paying with a purchase order are allowed payment under the two-week time frame if a copy of the purchase order is received by NWETC.
