The challenge of Climate Change can present many opportunities for companies to improve their day to day business operations and discover ways to minimize risk through climate friendly actions. This course will help owners, managers and employees understand the different ways climate change can impact their business and will teach easy implementable steps towards how to green your office and the financial rewards through these steps such as: cost reduction, brand value, risk reduction and employee retention and morale. Other topics will include energy efficiency, commuting and travel, paper use and a variety of other activities.

Kevin Wilhelm, CEO of SBC, an expert in sustainability and a national thought leader in the field of business and climate change. Kevin brings over 13 years of bottom-line financial experience to the field, having worked with clients ranging from next generation renewable energy start-ups to Fortune 500 multinationals. He is a nationally recognized speaker on the business of climate change and is the Chair of the Greater Seattle Chamber of Commerce Sustainability Committee.

Anne Morgan
, Senior Consultant Anne has an array of experience strategy development, project and relationship management, and communications. Her prior work includes development of a sustainability strategy and carbon footprint analysis for a $300 million national outdoor retailer. She holds a Masters in Sustainability from the Blekinge Institute of Technology in Sweden and is responsible for helping SBC clients develop profitable business solutions by creating and integrating climate change and sustainability strategies into their operations.

Jessie Alan
, Consultant Before coming to SBC, Jessie worked for several years in the environmental nonprofit sector – first as a Partnership Development Associate for a 50 year-old national service organization, and then as Executive Director of a start-up organization in Seattle. She is a Master’s Candidate at the Bainbridge Graduate Institute, an experienced public speaker, and an avid recreationist with first-hand knowledge of the outdoor industry. Jessie applies her skills to research, analysis, writing, and moderating for SBC projects.

Intended audience: Anyone who wants to learn how to introduce simple changes to their organization/company in order to make business operations more climate friendly. This course is appropriate for people working at all levels of their organization, from entry-level to management.

After completing this course participants will be able to: Create a more efficient workplace using innovative ideas; understand reductions within their office regarding energy, materials, waste and transportation. Participants will also have a better understanding of where to purchase sustainable office products and know how to measure their success.

Course materials: Each participant can request handouts for Resources for Further Involvement, Climate and Energy Incentives, Carbon Offsets, Carbon Footprinting, a 40 things You Can Do To Green Your Office and 10 Informative Slides about Climate Change handouts.

What to bring: Pen/pencil/notepad, coffee mug and water bottle (to reduce waste!). Please wear comfortable clothing appropriate for the prevailing weather. Coffee & tea will be provided.
