Description: In-situ chemical oxidation (ISCO) is an increasingly popular technology for treating a wide range of groundwater contaminants. This course will review the basic oxidation chemistry of commonly used oxidants including ozone, permanganate, peroxide, and persulfate with common hydrocarbon and chlorinated hydrocarbon contaminants. In addition, we will review case studies to highlight successful projects and application methods for a variety of geologic settings and contaminant types.

About the Instructor: Christopher Nelson has over twenty years of experience in soil and groundwater assessment and remediation with emphasis on in-situ chemical oxidation and bioremediation. He has a M.S. in environmental engineering and he is a registered professional engineer. Mr. Nelson has managed and provided technical direction on sites located in the U.S., Canada, Europe, Australia, and Japan for commercial and government clients. Much of this work has focused on designing and implementing in-situ chemical oxidation and bioremediation systems.
