Achievement of LEED® (Leadership in Energy and Enviromental Design) Accreditation is a crucial step towards gaining the expertise necessary to achieve LEED Certification, but it is the deep understanding of LEED management and credit implementation which will guarantee a successful project. LEED introduces a new and different process that requires careful and accurate management of people, design and administration.
This class will be an introduction of LEED and how to be part of and/or manage a team to achieve LEED Certification without unnecessary cost impacts and inefficiency. The primary emphasis will be on LEED-NC (New Construction) however LEED-CI, LEED-EBOM and the other LEED rating systems will be touched upon as well. This class will be conducted with highly-encouraged participation from attendees.
Specific topics discussed in this class will be:
• Introduction to LEED & available rating systems
• The LEED Checklist
• Establishment of a successful LEED team
• Tips & Tools for management of the LEED Certification Process
• Common LEED pitfalls
• The new LEED 2009 system
About the Instructor: Alexandra Ramsden is a LEED Accredited Professional (LEED® AP), Certified Sustainable Building Advisor (CSBA), and Sustainable Design Consultant at Rushing|Blackbird. She is the Studio Lead for the Blackbird Studio, which provides sophisticated, holistic, full-service sustainability consulting, including technical systems expertise, LEED facilitation, strategy development, alternative funding services, innovative cost-benefit feedback, and outside-of-the-box thinking. Alexandra has conducted numerous classes on the process of integrated design and LEED implementation. With more than 10 years experience in the interior architecture and sustainable design industry, Alexandra brings a wealth of environmental expertise to the table.
After completing this course, participants will be able to:
• Convey the benefits of LEED Certification
• Select the appropriate LEED rating system for a project
• Manage a team to meet a desired level of LEED Certification
• Create tools to streamline the design and construction process, in pursuit of LEED
Intended audience: People seeking the skills to execute a LEED project. This includes, but is not limited to, project managers, project architects, project designers, developers, general contractors, and sustainable project coordinators.
Prerequisites: Involvement, or desire for involvement, in the design, construction, or management of LEED buildings.
